Explore Central Park & Lake Elizabeth

Fremont’s Big Backyard
Fremont Central Park and Lake Elizabeth were developed in the late 1960s as part of a major city park project, with the man-made lake created to anchor what became Fremont’s primary recreation and outdoor space. Now a 450+ acre park anchored by an 80-acre lake and a two-mile loop trail, it offers everything from everyday walking paths to full-scale recreation and family amenities. Here's the short list of everything it offers:
Hugh A. Block Trail
This flat, paved loop circles Lake Elizabeth for about two miles, making it one of the most used walking and running routes in the city. Its continuous, mostly level layout makes it a leisurely and local popular route for walkers, runners, and bikers.
Lake Elizabeth
Lake Elizabeth is the 80-acre centerpiece of Central Park. The two-mile loop around the lake is one of Fremont’s most popular routes for walking and running, and the lake is stocked for fishing with species like trout and catfish, with anglers fishing from the shoreline. There is a designated boat launch/dock for accessing the lake with small, non-motorized personal boats. The setting is open and calm, with lawns and tree-lined paths and views toward the low East Bay foothills. Swimming is not allowed in the lake.
Stivers Natural Lagooon Area
The Stivers Lagoon Nature Area is a preserved wetland section of Central Park with raised boardwalk paths that take you through marsh habitat and native plant areas. It’s set apart from the busier lake loop and sports fields, so it tends to be quieter and less crowded. People come here for short walks, birdwatching, and a closer look at the park’s natural landscape rather than for workouts or events. It adds a small but meaningful ecological area to what is otherwise a very recreation-focused park.
The main lake loop connects to the Stivers Lagoon Nature Area via short spur paths, so you can easily branch off and walk the boardwalk loop through the lagoon before rejoining the main trail.
Multi-Use Sports Fields
Central Park has a large, organized complex of multi-use fields that host everything from youth leagues to adult recreational games and tournaments. The park includes multiple soccer and multi-purpose fields as well as baseball and softball diamonds, many of which are scheduled daily for practices and weekend games. These fields are used year-round by organized sports, school programs, and community leagues. They’re laid out as part of the larger park campus, so it’s common to see games happening alongside people walking the lake loop or using other parts of the park.
Tennis & Pickleball Courts
There's a dedicated cluster of well-used courts that support both drop-in play and scheduled reservations. You’ll see everything from casual games to organized lessons and league play.
Nine-Hole Golf Course
Fremont Golf Club offers a compact, public course that sits right inside the park, designed for shorter rounds and practice play rather than full tournament days. It’s especially popular for quick after-work games, casual weekend rounds, and for golfers who want to work on their short game without committing to a full 18 holes.
Picnic & Barbecue Areas
The park includes many designated picnic sites with tables and built-in grills, spread throughout different arease of the park. This includes several covered picnic shelters that can be reserved for birthdays, family events, and group outings. Some of these areas are set close to the lake and playgrounds, while others are near the sports fields and open lawns, so groups can pair a meal with activities.
Dog Park
Central Park Dog Park is a fully fenced, off-leash area adjacent to Stevenson Boulevard where dogs can run and play under owner supervision. It includes two separate turfed play sections: a larger 1.2-acre area with artificial turf and lighting for dogs over 14 inches tall and a much smaller natural grass area for smaller dogs under 14 inches, each with double-gated entry for safety.
Water Park & Playgrounds
Aqua Adventure is a seasonal, city-run water park located in the northeast part of Central Park. It’s designed primarily for families and kids, with multiple water slides, a lazy river, lap and play pools, and shallow areas for younger children. Pedal boats for Lake Elizabeth are also available for rent nearby during the same season, but swimming in the lake itself isn’t allowed; the waterpark provides the designated aquatic play space instead.
You'll also find other traditional playground areas scattered throughout the park, with swings, slides, and climbing equipment.
